AMI Scouts Hill and Moorland Leader training

An exciting new initiative between S Yorks Scouts, the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and AlpKit, providing training in the Peak for Scout Leaders.

Although the training will broadly follow the Hill and Moorland Leader Award, as provided by Mountain Training, it is ideal for Scout Leaders wanting a permit for Terrain 1 Summer Leadership.

We will aim to have fun and learn along the way. We meet Saturday 16th Nov at 12.30pm at the Fox House pub near Burbage. We will finish (in the dark) by 8pm, with some night navigation. Sunday 17th starts in the same place, at the more normal time of 9.30am, finishing by 4.30ish.

In that time, we will aim to look at all of the following topics, not necessarily in this order:

Navigation, Hazards and Emergency Procedures, Equipment, Group management, Access and Conservation, Weather

  • Waterproof Jacket and Trousers

  • Hat, gloves, warm layers

  • Walking boots and socks

  • Day rucksack

  • Rucksack liner

  • Flask and hill food

  • First aid kit

  • Headtorch

  • Compass – silva expedition type 4 is ideal

  • Maps of the area at 1:50000 and 1:25000 (if you have them: if not, I can supply)

All my contact details are on other parts of the website - do feel free to get in touch if you have questions.

See you soon,

No need to go through all the tedious reasons regarding government advice. Suffice to say the sport and trad improver courses in May and June have been cancelled.
